BetterFLAT Demonstrates Genetic Basis of Sole Resistance
2026-05-29
The BetterFLAT project is already delivering its first concrete results in the development of a genetic tool to select more disease resistant sole. Through a multidisciplinary approach, different families of sole were tested to assess their resistance to diseases.
Preliminary results, obtained following exposure to pathogens relevant within aquaculture production systems, demonstrate that some families consistently exhibit higher resistance than others. This evidence further supports the existence of a well-defined genetic basis associated with disease resistance.
With these findings, the S2AQUA team is now working to identify biomarkers that can distinguish resistant fish from more vulnerable ones 🔍. This progress represents an important step toward selecting more robust broodstock.
BetterFLAT demonstrates that genetic approaches can effectively improve sole resilience, paving the way for more efficient production and potential application to other species 🌊.
