On 9 September 2026, S2AQUAcoLAB participated in the Evento Nacional Conjunto 2026 da Estratégia Marítima do Atlântico & Iniciativa WestMED, held at the Auditório do Templo da Poesia, in Parque dos Poetas, Oeiras.
Under the theme «O Futuro do Oceano começa aqui: Competências Azuis & Resiliência Costeira», the event brought together representatives from public administration, academia, the private sector and civil society, fostering dialogue and the exchange of good practices around two key pillars of the transition towards a more resilient, competitive and sustainable Blue Economy: the development of blue skills and coastal resilience and Ocean health.
S2AQUAcoLAB was represented by its President of the Board, Pedro Pousão, who participated in the panel «Saúde do Oceano e Resiliência Costeira: da Política à Ação».
Moderated by Eduardo Silva, from INESC TEC and Coordinator of Pillar IV of the Atlantic Maritime Strategy, the panel also included António Coelho Cândido, Director-General for Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services, David Almeida Pereira, Director-General of the Hydrographic Institute, and Raquel Diez, from CETMAR, Galicia.
Throughout the morning, the programme also addressed topics related to blue skills, Ocean literacy, cooperation in Ocean observation and policies for coastal resilience, providing a space to reflect on shared challenges, opportunities for cooperation, and the role of innovation, training and public policies in building a more sustainable future for maritime regions.
The event was co-organised by Fórum Oceano, as the National Hub for the Atlantic Maritime Strategy and the WestMED Initiative, in partnership with the Direção-Geral de Política do Mar, as National Coordinator, and in coordination with the Assistance Mechanism for the European Union Sea Basin Strategies and Pillar IV of the Atlantic Maritime Strategy, dedicated to healthy oceans and resilient coasts.
