𝘐𝘯 v𝘪𝘵𝘳𝘰 cellular systems

In vitro cellular systems represent an alternative and a complement to in vivo tests, making it possible to reduce the number of animals in experiments, in accordance with the principles of the ‘3 R's’, while speeding up the obtaining of results. Their application contributes to the optimisation of resources, resulting in a reduction in the costs associated with aquaculture trials. At S2AQUAcoLAB, we have several primary cultures and cell lines derived from species that are economically relevant to the sector, which allow us to carry out tests for various purposes.

List of services

  • Proliferation assays to assess the influence of novel ingredients and compounds on fish growth;
  • Cytotoxicity assays to evaluate the cellular toxicity of compounds derived from natural, synthetic, or biotechnological sources;
  • Oxidative stress and cell damage assays to evaluate the antioxidant capacity of functional compounds;
  • Development of custom cell lines for assays in traditional and cellular aquaculture.

Aplications

  • Prevent mortality associated with toxic compound contamination;

  • Optimize feed formulations with functional ingredients to enhance animal growth, health, and welfare;

  • Study the underlying mechanisms of pathogen infection and identify targets for therapy development;

  • Develop cell-based seafood products.
